Dead Horse Ranch State Park quickly became one of our favorite
places to camp in Arizona. This was our first visit, and from the moment we
arrived we were impressed by the beautiful setting and convenient location.
The park is just two miles from historic downtown Cottonwood, making it easy
to enjoy local restaurants, shops, and attractions while still having the
peaceful atmosphere of a state park. The park features
three scenic lagoons and is bordered by the Verde River, creating an oasis in
the desert that attracts a wide variety of wildlife. One of our favorite
evening activities was sitting beside one of the lagoons and watching the
birds and other animals become active as the sun went down. We were fortunate
that our visit coincided with the annual Verde Valley Birding and Nature
Festival, adding even more opportunities to see the area's incredible
birdlife. |

Dead Horse Ranch State Park is also an excellent base for
exploring central Arizona. Within a short drive you can visit the red rocks
of Sedona, the historic mining town of Jerome, the charming community of
Clarkdale, or the historic city of Prescott. Whether you're looking for
hiking, sightseeing, photography, shopping, or simply relaxing in a
beautiful campground, Dead Horse Ranch State Park is an outstanding
destination and a place we would happily visit again. |
