Borrego Springs is a unique desert community in San Diego County that is completely surrounded by Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, California's largest state park. Since purchasing our motorhome, it has become one of our favorite spring destinations as we make the annual trip hoping to catch the spectacular wildflower bloom. Planning a visit during wildflower season takes some advance preparation. Campgrounds fill quickly, and reservations often need to be made six months to a year ahead of time, whether you choose one of the state park campgrounds or a private RV resort. We've stayed at a different campground on each visit, and every one has offered something a little different. Some provide incredible mountain views, while others are closer to town or offer more amenities, so it really depends on what you're looking for. |

The wildflower display is never guaranteed. Some years the
desert explodes with colorful blooms stretching across the landscape, while
other years the flowers are much more modest. Even when nature doesn't put
on its biggest show, we've never been disappointed with our trips. The
desert has a beauty all its own, with rugged mountain backdrops, sweeping
vistas, and miles of open space that seem to go on forever. One of the
area's most recognizable attractions is the collection of over 130
large-scale metal sculptures scattered throughout the desert. These
impressive works of art depict everything from prehistoric creatures and
giant serpents to animals, historical figures, and imaginative creations,
making them fun to explore and photograph. As evening arrives, Borrego Springs offers another unforgettable experience. The community is recognized as an International Dark Sky Community, and with very little light pollution, the night skies are simply spectacular. On a clear night, thousands of stars fill the sky, making it one of Southern California's best places for stargazing. |
