Lake Mead

Lake Mead, created by the construction of Hoover Dam on the Colorado River, is surrounded by rugged desert landscapes that support a surprising amount of wildlife. One of the most memorable sights in the area is the local herd of desert bighorn sheep, which can often be seen grazing casually in parks and open spaces near the lake.

The photo of Hoover Dam highlights just how low the water levels have fallen—Lake Mead has been hovering around one-third of its capacity due to long-term drought conditions and high demand throughout the Colorado River basin. Another photo, taken from inside our RV at the Lake Mead RV Village, brings back great memories. Before owning our own RV, we rented one and stayed at this very campground. We enjoyed it so much that we returned for another stay. During our visit, we also took a scenic cruise on the Desert Princess, a relaxing way to take in the beauty of the lake from the water.
