The International Car Forest of the Last Church in Goldfield,
Nevada, is one of the most striking and imaginative roadside art installations
in the American West. Spread across nearly 40 acres, the site features more
than 40 cars, trucks, buses, and even limousines planted vertically into the
earth, stacked, or painted with bold murals. Artists Chad Sorg and Michael
“Mark” Rippie created the installation as a place where large-scale,
unconventional art could thrive without rules or limits. |

Visitors wandering the site will find each vehicle
transformed into a canvas—covered in vivid colors, political messages,
surreal characters, and abstract designs. Because the artwork is constantly
updated by visiting artists, no two trips are the same. The Car Forest’s
rugged desert backdrop adds to its dramatic atmosphere, making it a perfect
place for sunsets, stargazing, and unique photo opportunities. As one of
Goldfield’s most recognizable modern landmarks, it complements the town’s
rich mining history with a burst of creativity and eccentric Nevada spirit,
offering travelers a memorable stop on their journey through the high
desert. |
