Death Valley is a desert valley located in Eastern California and Western Nevada. It is the lowest, hottest, and driest national park in the United States. The park is home to a variety of desert plants and animals, including the Death Valley tortoise, the Amargosa vole, and the saltbush lizard. Death Valley Junction is a small unincorporated community located in Inyo County, California, at the intersection of U.S. Route 190 and State Route 127. The community is named for its location at the junction of two major roads leading to Death Valley National Park. It is also home to the Amargosa Opera House.

The Nevada Test Site is a United States Department of Energy (DOE) reservation located in southeastern Nevada. The site is used for the testing of nuclear devices. The site was established in 1951 and has been the site of over 900 nuclear tests. It is also the location of Yucca Mountain, a proposed Nuclear Waste dump.
