Borrego Springs is recognized as a designated International Dark Sky Community by the International Dark-Sky Association. There are no stop lights and nighttime lighting is kept to a minimum. It is also surrounded by the Anza Borrego Desert State park, the largest State Park in California at just under 600,000 acres.

Borrego Springs has also become known for the metal sculptures that Dennis Avery had commissioned by Ricardo Breceda of Perris CA.

Dennis Avery is the son of Ray Stanton (“Stan”) Avery who invented the worlds first self-adhesive label. The metal sculptures are dinosaurs and other creatures from species that may have once roamed the area. At last count there were 130 sculptures. We went to see the spring wildflowers but alas it was a very poor year for that because they did not get enough rain over the winter.
