Flickr is now limiting the number of photos I can have so these will age out in a year or so.

The Tejon Ranch Conservancy is the largest contiguous privately held land mass in California and is just north of Los Angeles off interstate 5. It has parts of 4 ecological regions, Sierra Nevada, Great Central Valley, Mojave Desert and Southwestern California. We went with the group we volunteer for at Mt. Baldy, the San Gabriel Mountains Heritage Association. We were in two different vehicles and the other group got to see a California Condor soaring overhead. The Condor has a wing span of up to 9 feet and is the largest North American land bird.

We did see a lot of wild turkeys and a few deer. The tree in the lower left is riddled with acorns stored by the acorn woodpecker. The acorn woodpeckers create granaries or "acorn trees" by drilling holes in dead trees, dead branches, telephone poles, and wooden buildings. They also drill holes in the thick bark of mature living trees, notably the Ponderosa Pine in California. We spent the entire day going through the Conservancy lands and for sure went through some very beautiful unspoiled lands.
