Our jaunt to Trona was two fold, attend the Gem and Mineral show and see the football team play on the dirt filed called "The Pit". There are the only team  in the lower 48 states that has a dirt and rock field instead of grass. As we were pulling into town there was a parade going on, it seems it was also a big homecoming deal for all years of the school. The gem and mineral show was good and they had a number of venders. Karen picked up a couple slabs that we will get made or I may attempt to make into a pendant. They also had bus tours of the Searles Mineral plant and you could go out on the lake to look for minerals. That was a very dirty business and they recommend you bring clothes you can throw out when you are done. At lunch we sat with a couple that had been out on the dry lake and OMG were they dirty.

When we went to the football game it was at 2:00 and it was 105 degrees. Before the game the homecoming court gets on the hood of cars and are driven around the field to the stands. They are all dressed up in beautiful gowns and they end up sitting in the stands with no shade. It was something to watch them play on the dirt field and man was it hot. We left before half time because I did not want to get baked and burned. My wife likes to harass me and tell people that for our 25th anniversary instead of Hawaii I took her to Trona. I say nothing but the best for you dear.
