Carpinteria Greenhouse & Nursery Tour

This was billed as the 6th Annual tour. We took a tour of the greenhouses in 2004, 10 years ago... But that was run by the Chamber of Commerce. It is now put on by the California Cut Flower Commission (CCFC). In the early days you had to pay for the tour and it included a bus tour, lunch and more. My guess is because you had to pay the number of people who attended was not that high. This event was very busy and very well attended to the point we will not go back again. Can you say lines and parking headaches at the growers facilities that are not equipped for this.

They had food trucks at a few of the growers but near lunch time food trucks are not equipped to handle the masses they got. We just skipped that part. It is very interesting visiting the different growers and seeing how their operations work. It is of course beautiful too seeing all the flowers. One of the downsides of it being run by the CCFC is you do not get to see the vegetable operations in Carpinteria.

These blue iris to the left are not natural. The grower inject s dye into the plant that turns them this color. They sure are pretty though and were the first thing we noticed at this grower. We find Carpinteria a fun, smaller CA city to visit with good restaurants, great beaches and a nice small town feel. We may investigate taking the train from Upland to Carpinteria and spending a night.
