Temple Square

We were on a trip to Boise Idaho because money magazine said it was one of the best places in the US to retire. I use that excuse fairly often to go see a city we have not been to before. We stopped in Salt Lake City for a few days on the way. Of course right in the center of the city is Temple Square. The city is laid out in a grid pattern around Temple Square. Because of this you can actually find a location without using a GPS. Of course everything at Temple Square is immaculately taken care of. There are many missionaries wandering the grounds to help and answer any questions. Ohhh and if you get to close to the temple entrance there are men in black suits to help guide you someplace else.

The building to the left is the Latter Day Saints Conference Center completed in 2000. The Conference Center is used primarily for religious services, including the Mormon Church's annual and semi-annual General Conference in April and October respectively, it was also designed to be used for cultural and artistic shows of all kinds. The Conference Center contains a 21,000-seat auditorium with a 7,667-pipe organ and no visible support beams, plus a 900-seat proscenium-style theater and 1,300 parking spaces below the building on four levels. It also boasts four acres of landscaped roof with trees, an alpine meadow of grasses and wildflowers, fountains, and a waterfall.

To the left is the Tabernacle, home of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. I have seen them singing on TV before so it was quite interesting to see the building in person. They did a brief demonstration of the acoustics of the building. One of the things they did was drop a pin on the podium and you could hear it at the back of the building. In the lower left is the state capital building. We never quite had time to visit this when it was open because we were busy visiting other attractions.
