We went to railroad days one before but we got there about 20 minutes before it ended. The San Bernardino event is held at the historic Santa Fe Depot. There were a number of private cars on display you could walk through, the Tioga Pass, built in 1959; an ex-Southern Pacific club lounge No. 2981, the Overland Trail, built in 1949; a former Santa Fe lounge car, the Acoma, built in 1937 for the Super Chief; and a former Canadian Pacific club/lounge car 4210, the Pony Express, built in 1941.

You could also go through a modern locomotive pictured at left. The controls are sure a bit different the a steam locomotive with computer screens and buttons. <grin>.

Of course one of the big draws is the Santa Fe steam locomotive No. 3751, built in 1927. The private cars were also selling tickets for excursions. See the web site to see where the car is going next and book passage. It seems the owners of these cars, in order to offset some of the expense of have their car pulled, offer tickets to go along. You can book a day trip with food for about $150 a person and ride the rails in style.
