Mojave River Trail Days

I am always a bit behind posting pictures... I take too many to catch up I guess. The Mojave River Trail Days is a small town event in the upper desert in Helendale, CA. It was really a very nice event and I would consider going back again. The first two photos are of an event called oddly enough "Mounted Shooting". They have a marked out course they ride through shooting out the balloons. It is a timed event and if you miss a balloon they add time. The guns shoot a black powder charge and the hot embers are what breaks the balloon. It looks like it would be a lot of fun. From my observations one of the hard things is to train your horse not to get spooked by the noise when you shoot.

They of course had food vendors and antique cars and antique farm equipment. Country music performed under a tent was pretty good. Admission was a whopping $1 and parking was free.

Then they had a Civil War Encampment and you could wander through looking at how the solders camped / lived during the war. Then a few times each day they would re-enact a battle. All in all a fun event.
