San Clemente Beach

The Los Angeles area Metro Link trains, in an effort to bring in new riders, were offering two free round trip tickets. So Karen and I decided to ride the train down to the beach. We selected San Clemente because the stop is right at the pier. The ride down was enjoyable and certainly easy. We went from Riverside to San Clemente and ut takes about 90 minutes and for us to drive there would take about the same time. Metro Link also has a weekend deal where for $10 you can ride the trains from 7 PM Friday to midnight Sunday.

We had not been down to San Clemente in about 8 to 10 years. In fact the last photos I have from there were 2002. We enjoyed lunch at the restaurant on the pier. There are a number of restaurants and shops a short walk from the train station. It was early fall and it was an unusually hot day at the beaches and hit about 85. The pier is almost 1300 feet long and of course offers great views of the ocean, the town and there are always surfers.

All in all it was a nice train ride, the day was pretty and the food good. The train trip ended up being free but at $20 for the two of us would cost us the same or slightly more to drive. We may end up doing this again one of these days.
