St. Johns Arizona

St. Johns is the county sat for Apache county in Arizona and according to
wikipedia is the only city in the county. The 2000 census showed 3200 people
in the city. As the picture shows it is pretty empty. We spent 2 nights here
while visiting the Petrified National Forest. |

You may have hears of St. John's this summer when escaped convicts John
McCluskey and his fiancee, Casslyn Welch were captured and jailed here. The
town obviously had better times then what we saw while there. There were a
lot of old buildings that were empty. |

I asked if the car dealership was one of the ones that was pulled in belt
tightening by GM and was told no. It just went out of business. Inside the
car dealership there was a large vault. I was told this vault was used in
early days be local businesses on weekends to store their money since the
banks were no open on weekends. |
