Borrego Springs

We had a decent amount of rain this past winter and the desert did too. This means desert wildflowers, so we were off to Borrego Springs to see the flowers. On the way there we stopped in Warner Springs to see the old historic Saint Francis Chapel, established 1830.

Quite an interesting structure inside and out. I am not able to find much history on it though which is kind of surprising.

Well, the flowers were of course nice but I was a little surprised as only the desert floor was in bloom. None of the hillsides were blooming yet. When I checked web sites for the park and the town you got the impression it was peak bloom. We had a nice picnic lunch and enjoyed the flowers before heading back home. On the way down into the desert you could see all the buds on the hillsides getting ready to open. I am sure about 2 weeks later the flowers were a lot more profuse and spectacular.
