After moving out to California Karen expressed a desire to visit all of the 21
missions. I believe this one is number 14 in that quest for us. It is also one
of the closer ones. Mission San Fernando was founded in 1797. The missions are
each spaced within a days walk of the next one. |

The missions were all built to be self sustaining and had provisions for
farming and ranching to raise/grow their own food. Of course the original
constriction was adobe. This mission has been restored and is in wonderful
shape. The day we were there a wedding party was there taking photographs.
They had not gotten married there but had paid a fee to come and take
wedding photos there. According to the guard I was talking to they had been
there for about  2 hours. |

The inside of the church is quite beautiful as are the grounds. There is a
cemetery on the grounds and Bob Hope is buried there. |
