Dresden is the capitol of the German state of Saxony. Dresden was heavily
bombed in WWII then 40 years in the Soviet Bloc left a lot of scars on the
city to say the least. But this particular cathedral shows some of the
wonderful restoration that has taken place after the German Reunification in
1990. We stopped in Dresden for only a few ours on our way to the Czech
  Republic. |

Restoration of  this chapel, the Dresden Frauenkirche,  was
completed in 2005, a year before Dresden's 800th anniversary. The amazing
thing is it was all done using  privately raised funds. So it was only
a few years old but build to it's original splendor. It was one of the most
beautiful things I have seem. |

We also went in some of the shops looking at the Dresden porcelain and the
Dresden rose. All incredibly nice and of course incredibly expensive. The
city certainly needs more exploration then we had time to do. |
