On the western side of the Sierras I stopped in Jamestown to visit Railtown 1897 State Historic Park. It is a wonderful collection of old trains and this roundhouse with an operating turntable.

Jamestown itself, like many others along highway 49, is very old and historic. As you go through town you can tell the age of the buildings by looking at the brick. There are a number of nice places to stop and eat.

On highway 108 out of Sonora the road is relatively tame for 30 miles or so. Nice high speed sweepers.  Then I came to this sign.<grin> Oh yeah... this is what I came here for.

This part of the road over Sonora Pass is a dream for riding. The road goes up steeply twisting and turning its way over the mountains at this point.

As you can see the views are stunning, also commanding you to stop and enjoy.
