Mount Baldy

The Mount Baldy Zen Center is located in the San Gabriel Mountains just North
of Claremont and about 2 miles from the village of Mt. Baldy. Since we do
volunteer work at the Mt. Baldy Visitors center we thought we would visit and get some more information on the Zen Center. This building is one of
the meditation rooms. The Zen Center is a Rinzai Zen Buddhist monastery.

During out visit their the place was pretty quiet. They had rented it out to
a Yoga group to practice their yoga. In Buddhism the goal of the practitioner
is gain enlightenment in order to overcome the basic human condition of
suffering.

This is a wooden bell. When the monks are in residence they get up about
3:00 am and have about 30 minutes personal time before they start
chanting.

The setting is quite stunning nestled in the San Gabriel mountains and I
expect when the peaks are covered in snow very pretty.

This walkway goes up to one of the cabins.
