Mojave National Preserve

This is the Kelso Depot. The depot is nearing completion of a renovation. It is to be opened in the fall of 2005 as a visitors center for the Mojave National Preserve. We had been to the depot a few years ago but we had never done any exploring of the park.

This time we did some exploring. Of course there are many dirt roads to drive<grin>. This time there was even some water, They had rain the previous day.

This was a ramp that would be used to load livestock into a truck. I'm not sure why it was here. But, it made for an interesting picture.

These are the Mitchell caverns. They are in a California State Park that is completely contained with in the Mojave National Preserve. The tours last about 90 minutes. You walk 1/2 mile to get to the caverns then 1/2 mile back. They are limestone caves and the rooms are pretty big.

This is the Hole in The Wall Information Center. While I couldn't find anything to explain the name I suspect it has to do with all the holes in the Lava Rock Walls.
